Newbiggin by the Sea is located in South East Northumberland, on England's norhtheast coast.
Immediately behind Coble Cottage you will find the UK's oldest operational lifeboat station. A short walk along the promenade will take you to the Maritime Centre with the lovely St. Bartholomew's Church on the headland beyond. Our beach is probably the 'newest' in the land, having been imported from off Skegness in 2007 to replenish our diminishing supply of sand. Out in the bay Sean Henry's sculpture "Couple" was the UK's first permanent offshore sculpture and the most famous of the forty or so works of public and community art to be found in the village. Download the Newbiggin Art Trailleaflet here, additional copies of which are available in Coble Cottage. For more information about Newbiggin visit the Newbiggin by the Sea Community website here. Visit Newbiggin Maritime Centre here.
The area to the North is known as the Northumbrian Heritage Coast, and boasts mile after mile of exquisite beaches, bays and lovely seaside villages. Immediately to the north is Druridge Bay, an area of outstanding natural beauty.
The county has over fifty of the country's finest historic castles, including Bamburgh, Alnwick, Dunstanburgh and Lindisfarne on Holy Island.
Hadrian's Wall is to the west and to the south, only half an hour away is Newcastle upon Tyne and the Gateshead Metro Centre. The Newcastle/Gateshead Quayside is quite spectacular and The Baltic and the Sage front the river Tyne.
Birdwatchers are particularly well catered for in Newbiggin. For further information click here.
